I have just begun my dream job as Superintendent of the Owatonna Public Schools! Why is it my dream job? Because my family has lived here for 16 years and my children attend our community’s schools. I am both proud and humbled to serve our community in this role, and very grateful to Pete Grant for the leadership he provided as superintendent the past 5 years before he retired.
While summer is a time for many to relax, we are quite busy here at OPS. Thanks to our community’s support in 2015, we passed a bond referendum that enabled us to make major facilities improvements to our buildings. A key part of those improvements included building additions on four schools, converting Willow Creek Intermediate to an elementary school and changing to a K-5, 6-8, 9-12 grade configuration by moving 6th graders to the Junior High School.
As part of those improvements, some of our schools will not only have a new look, but they’ll get a new name effective August 1, 2017:
We plan to hold community celebrations this fall when most of the construction is complete. Watch your email for information about those grand openings later this summer.
I look forward to partnering with all of you in our mission and commitment to Learning Excellence, Life Readiness, and High Expectations for All.
My door is always open, so stop in, call or email me anytime. Enjoy summer!
