Owatonna Public School Board Accepts Task Force Recommendation

On Monday, December 10, 2018, the Owatonna Public School Board accepted the Community Task Force on Facilities recommendation and authorized Superintendent Jeff Elstad to prepare a resolution with ballot language as well as the Review and Comment report as required by the Minnesota Department of Education for a May 14, 2019 school district special election.

This approval comes after the Board authorized Superintendent Jeff Elstad to form a Community Task Force on Facilities in July to study the Owatonna Public Schools’ facilities and to develop and update a comprehensive, long-range Facilities Master Plan for recommendation to the School Board. On November 26, the Task Force came forward with a recommendation to build a new high school, and their recommendation was discussed further at the December 3, 2018 work session during which three local businesses came forward in support of a new high school, offering generous financial support.

The board is expected to review the ballot language at the January 28, 2019, School Board Meeting.
